    Join us as we prepare you for Celtic Crossroads, an explosion of youthful energy that fuses traditional Irish music, bluegrass, gypsy and jazz, with some pulsating rhythms of exciting Irish dance percussion. In partnership with Anam Cara (meaning “friend of my soul”), a local Celtic band, we will feature some educational information and participatory activities to help you learn more about Celtic music and stories from the past and present. We invite Celtic music lovers, or those curious to learn about Celtic music, to join the fun as we explore the musical traditions behind Celtic Crossroads.

    Join us for an energetic Get to Know the Show workshop featuring Sarah Emery from Echo Arts Productions as we prepare you to better enjoy the movements and sounds used in TRACES coming to the McGlohon Theatre on October 7th – November 16th, 2008. Through demonstration, instruction and participatory activities, our featured artist will show attendees how to use dance moves, poetry, basic acrobatics, and other forms of expression that they will see in TRACES. By the end of the workshop, participants will perform a group presentation which will help them better enjoy the public performance.

    The Education Institute is partnering with Queens University of Charlotte to offer a free workshop where you will learn more about the art of Improv and Sketch Comedy Theater poking fun at both political parties in the context of the upcoming election. Keli Semelsberger from the Charlotte Comedy Theater will help you learn key elements of Improv and Sketch Theater. Have fun while you laugh and learn with this special workshop to prepare you for Second City: Deface the Nation coming to the Booth Playhouse on October 14th – 19th, 2008.

    The Education Institute is partnering with Central Piedmont Community College Theatre Department to offer a unique Get to Know the Show workshop in preparation for the upcoming Defending the Caveman performance. Tracy Tebow Davies and Colby Davis from the Charlotte Comedy Theatre will involve the audience as they teach participants about how monologue, sketch, and improv are used in a play using gender perspectives as the topic.

    The Education Institute is partnering with the Afro-American Cultural Center to offer a unique “Get to Know the Show” workshop in preparation for the upcoming Savion Glover: Bare Soundz performance at the Belk Theatre on October 27th, 2008 featuring local artist, Stefan Harris. Our featured artist will teach participants the basics of tap dancing through rhythmic techniques. Participants will learn how to use musical fusions and diverse tapping moves such as Street tap, foot stomping, ballroom tap dancing and much more. By the end of the workshop, participants will learn to use beat-counts to present a choreographed finale.
